The camp-site lies in a protected area with altitudes between 500 and 700 meters. Nearly each week there are one or more organized walks to explore the neighborhood. In the area there are rather flat meadows, woods and wasteland. If you want to cycle, you will have to use a bike with gears. Fondamente (this village is 10 km away) is part of the province Aveyron and the region Midi-Pyrénées. The nearby village of Ceilhes-et-Rocozels lies in the province Hérault, region Langedoque-Roussillon. Ceilhes is up hill and down dale approximately an hour and a half walking from the camp-site, the detour by road for cars is 16 kilometers. Larger towns in the region are Lodève (40 km), Saint-Affrique (35 km), Millau (50 km), and Montpellier (85 km).

  • The environment of Le Pas de Ceilhes is thinly populated, it counts 5 hectares per inhabitant. Because of its extensiveness it is very quiet, even in the high season. Our camping lies in the protected regional park of the Grands Causses (large lime plateau’s). The Causse du Larzac is one of them.
  • On the road D93 along the river Soulzon you will also find Roquefort, famous because of its raw salty blue sheep cheese. The manufacturers organize cheese excursions in the caves where their delicious product is maturing.
  • Today the town of Millau is famous because of its high bridge above the river Tarn. It is said to be the highest bridge in the whole world. There is a visitor centre on the foot of a 343 meters high pillar. If you take the old (toll-free) route from the north via Millau to the camp-site then you have a chance to see paragliders flying around the mountains.
  • The Cirque de Navacelles is large landform in a circle formation, located towards the southern edge of the Massif Central mountain range. The crater is located near Saint-Maurice-Navacelles. The cirque is very isolated, with only a few small village communities living in the surrounding area.
  • The Vérène, the little creek on the camping, floats southwards in the direction of the Mediterranean sea. When you go to Fondamente you will cross the invisible water divide or watershed, the river Sorgues floats westwards in the direction of the Atlantic Ocean.
